Volunteering

What is it?

An interesting & valuable project in collaboration with Dr. Masoud Zamani Esteki who heads the Cellular Genomics Medicine group at MUMC. The project is called PREhealth, and it focuses on increasing awareness about reproductive options such as NIPT, especially among populations often neglected such as those with low literacy, minorities, and people who don't speak English or Dutch. For this, we've set up a platform (pre-health.org), on which we publish educational articles & videos about many different reproductive health-related topics.
Our team aims for a durable, sustainable platform; Dr. Zamani's vision is of an organisation akin to, for example, KWF.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for committed volunteers who could strengthen our team in different areas for 2-4 hours per week. This includes writers, translators (any language!), graphic designers, videographers & PR. Our priorities right now are Dutch and German translations, graphics, and video. You don't need experience or anything like that, we just want people passionate about the cause & who have a knack for one or more of these different skills. Good to know: we focus explicitly on an inclusive environment on the platform. This is a core feature of the project. This means, most notably, queer- and gender-inclusive language (see pre-health.org/colophon for more info on this & our other approaches to inclusivity). We do expect that you're comfortable with this if you're interested in joining the project.

What's in it for you?

You're contributing meaningfully to a project with great potential. We've recently presented this project to a few dozen experts in the field (physicians, scientists), with very positive reception & interest to join the project as medical reviewer. We'll soon be a true foundation (in the legal sense of the word), which opens up opportunity for funding. A financial injection in the project & serious interest from the scientific and medical community could greatly increase reach & visibility, resulting in a credible listing on your CV.You'll also help make reproductive healthcare more fair (awareness = fairness!), helping people who otherwise wouldn't have access to this information make informed choices.

How can you get more info? How can you join?

Send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions or if you're interested in joining the team. Please mention your name, background, any previous experience with similar projects, and the role you're interested in and why. We'd be very excited if you came to join our team!
